Strategic Buying for Scientific Breakthroughs: INPROCAP at the FISA-EURADWASTE & SNETP Forum 2025

From 12 to 16 May 2025, Warsaw hosted the FISA-EURADWASTE & SNETP Forum 2025. A flagship European event was dedicated to nuclear fission research, safety, and radioactive waste management. Organised under the patronage of the European Commission and within the framework of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, the forum brought together over 700 participants from 38 countries — including researchers, policymakers, regulators, industry experts, and young professionals.

The event served as a platform to:

• present the outcomes of over 100 Euratom-funded projects,
• strengthen cooperation among stakeholders,
• spotlight the role of nuclear innovation in achieving Europe’s climate and energy goals.

INPROCAP: Highlighting Innovation in Public Procurement

Among the many initiatives showcased at the forum, the INPROCAP project stood out for its contribution to rethinking public procurement as a strategic driver of innovation in Big Science and large-scale research infrastructures.
At a dedicated exhibition stand and in expert discussions, INPROCAP presented its mission to build capacity among public buyers and Innovation Liaison Officers. Moving beyond conventional procurement approaches, the initiative enables more agile, innovation-friendly processes across Europe’s research landscape.

Why INPROCAP Was Featured

INPROCAP’s goals align closely with the forum’s focus on systemic improvement and long-term impact:

• enhancing innovation capacity through modern procurement models;
• supporting sustainable investment in nuclear research infrastructures;
• translating research outputs into real-world implementation strategies.

Forum participants explored how procurement can serve not just administrative needs, but actively foster innovation. Conversations at the INPROCAP stand covered:

• new tools and frameworks for strategic procurement;
• lessons learned from applying procurement reform in complex nuclear projects;
• connections between procurement planning and broader Euratom programme objectives.

By sharing concrete examples and actionable insights, INPROCAP underlined its value as both a knowledge hub and a catalyst for collaboration.
