INPROCAP PARTNERS CONVENE IN HAMBURG FOR PROJECT MEETING

The European XFEL hosted the INPROCAP project meeting on 9.-10. January 2025 in Hamburg. This crucial networking event provided an excellent platform for partners to share knowledge, review project progress, and address potential workflow challenges.

The meeting began with a warm welcome from the project coordinator Esther Davidsen from the Danish Teknologisk Institut. In her opening remarks, Esther set the tone for the discussions by presenting the six-month results and outlining the project’s priorities for 2025.

Work package leaders then provided detailed updates, focusing on the following key areas:

Work Package (WP)1: Project management

WP2: Establishing knowledge baselines and industrial outreach channels

WP3: Training innovation procurement advisors and Industry Liaison Officers (ILOs)

WP4: Research infrastructures innovation procedures and training for Business Support Organization (BSO) staff

WP5: Communication and dissemination

Achievements and Progress

During the first six months of the project implementation, the INPROCAP team made the following strides:

Mapping Best Practices
Efforts focused on identifying lessons learned and best practices in innovation procurement from various sectors. Interviews with European ILO and BSO procurement officers explored national procurement experience relevant to big science. The findings will culminate in a comprehensive report that identifies barriers and strategies for innovation procurement in the big science sector.

Engaging Industry Clusters
The team worked on identifying relevant environments and collaborating with Big Science Industry clusters to advance the INPROCAP project.

Developing Training Programs
Surveys with stakeholders, including ILOs, BSOs, and companies, helped tailor training programs and manuals. These resources aim to reflect the needs and preferences of stakeholders, ensuring their relevance and utility.

A Community of Practice (CoP) is being established to create a central platform for stakeholders—ILOs, BSOs, companies, and experts, with the aim to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate. The CoP will serve as a hub for fostering learning, networking, and innovation in procurement, promoting a collective approach to advancing the field.

Exploring European XFEL

On Thursday afternoon, INPROCAP team visited the Lighthouse Visitor Centre at European XFEL. This interactive experience offered fascinating insights into the facility’s cutting-edge research. Highlights included the Xcool Lab, engaging exhibitions, and modern conference spaces, showcasing European XFEL’s innovative contributions to science and technology.

Looking Ahead

The INPROCAP project continues to work toward creating a more inclusive and collaborative approach to innovation procurement. With strong foundations laid in the first six months, the partners are poised to make significant progress in 2025.

Stay tuned for updates as the project unfolds.
